  1. This disk contains the X11R6 patch level 3 distribution, as well as
  2. binaries for Solaris 2.3 and SunOS 4.1.3 machines.

  4. The X11R6 distribution is also available via anonymous ftp from
  5. ftp.x.edu.  See the file X11R6/README for more information.

  15.                 Solaris 2.3 hosts, and cd_link software for
  16.                 accessing this disk if you do not have 
  17.                 RockRidge support.

  30.                 Solaris of BSD installs, as well as installing
  31.                 either as links or real binaries.

  35. To install the X11R6 distribution you can either use the provided
  36. installation script, or do it yourself.
  37.  
  38. To use the script do the following:
  39.     % install.sh [-c]|[-l] [-s]|[-b] <cdrom_path> <install_path>
  40.         -c:  copy files
  41.         -l:  make symbolic links instead of copying
  42.         -s:  install for a Solaris host
  43.         -b:  install for a SunOS 4.1.3 host
  44.         cdrom_path: cdrom mount point (default is "/cdrom")
  45.         install_path: installation destination 
  46.             (default is "/usr/X11R6")
  47.  
  48. The full binary distribution takes roughly 60 megs of disk space, while the 
  49. link only installation takes about a meg of space, just for the links and
  50. directory entries.
  51.  
  52. If you would like to just run off the cdrom with no new links or code, do
  53. the following:
  54.  
  55.     % ln -s /cdrom/ARCH /usr/X11R6
  56.  
  57.     (Where "ARCH" is either "solaris" or "sun413" depending upon
  58.     the operating system.)
  59.  
  60. This will create a link in /usr that points to the correct directory
  61. in the CDROM.  Once you have done this, if you add /usr/X11R6/bin to
  62. your path, you will be able to run the X software directly off the
  63. disk.

  65. Please check individual files for copyrights and distribution restrictions.

  69. This disc conforms to the level 1 ISO-9660 format with Rock Ridge
  70. extensions.  If your operating system supports Rock Ridge, you can
  71. access the files using the full Unix pathnames.  If your system does
  72. not support Rock Ridge, the filenames are limited to eight single-case
  73. characters, with an extension of up to three characters.  Each
  74. directory on this disc has a file named 00_TRANS.TBL, that maps the
  75. ISO-9660 compliant filenames to the original, Unix-style, filenames.
